Mancuso Earns Olympic Medal for U.S.

The U.S. has another bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in Russia. Reno's Julia Mancuso finished third in the women's super-combined for her fourth career Olympic medal. No other American woman has won more than two medals in Olympic Alpine skiing. Mancuso won gold in the giant slalom in the 2006 Games in Italy as well as silvers in the downhill and super-combined four years ago in Vancouver.

Despite leading the super-combined after the downhill portion of the event and not winning, Mancuso is thrilled with the bronze as slalom racing has never been her specialty.

The winner of the race was Germany's Maria Hoefl-Riesch, who has now won back to back gold in the event.

The bronze by Mancuso gives Team U.S.A five medals in Sochi (SOH'-chee), two gold and three bronze.

Four years ago in Vancouver J.R. Celski of the U.S. won the bronze in the men's 1,500-meter short track race. He had to settle for a fourth place finish this year, losing out to gold medalist Charles Hamelon of Canada.

In women's hockey, the U.S. smashed Switzerland 9-0 for its second win. The victory all but clinched a spot in the Olympic women's hockey semifinals. With a 2-0 record, the U.S. is in position for a spot in the medal round regardless of what happens on Wednesday in the game against Canada, the marquee matchup of the round-robin.

By the way the weather is getting rather un-winter like at the Winter Olympics. The temperate in Sochi (SOH'-chee) today is in the mid to upper 50's and the forecast calls for the 60's later in the week.
