Ted Ligety (LIHG'-eh-tee) has won the giant slalom at the Sochi Games with a dominating performance today, becoming the first American man to win two Olympic gold medals in Alpine skiing. Steve Missillier of France finished second and Alexis Pinturault, also of France, was third.

Former U.S. snowboarder Vic Wild has won gold for Russia in the parallel giant slalom. Wild rolled to victory in the final on Wednesday, overcoming a half-second deficit against Switzerland's Nevin Galmarini to win in front of a largely pro-Russian crowd. Zan Kosir of Slovenia earned bronze in the event that is a mixture of snowboarding and Alpine skiing.

Wild's wife, Alena Zavarzina of Russia, won bronze in the women's event. Patrizia Kummer of Switzerland won the gold.

In women's bobsled, USA-1 teammates Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams hold a comfortable lead over Canada-1 and USA-2 after two runs. Williams is seeking to become just the second athlete to win a gold medal in the Summer and Winter Olympics. The Americans lead Canada's Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse by 0.23 seconds heading into today's two runs.

Americans Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans are third, 0.56 seconds back.

In other news:

— The U.S. and Canada have named their starting goaltenders for today's men's quarterfinal action. Jonathan Quick will be between the pipes when the Americans face off against the Czech Republic. Canada will go with Carey Price versus Latvia.

— Competition in women's figure skating begins with the short program today.
