Earlier this week, the Colorado High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) announced preseason rankings for Colorado’s high school football teams.

CHSAA says defending champions head six of football’s seven classes in the 2014 preseason rankings.

The one exception is in Class 3A, where Lutheran holds the top spot in CHSAA’s preseason poll. Lutheran took the top spot in 3A when last year’s champion (Coronado) and runner-up (Silver Creek) moved up to Class 4A.

In addition, Lutheran came close to sharing the top 3A spot with #2 Delta when both schools received three first-place votes.

Also in 3A, Rifle placed fourth in the rankings and Palisade placed eighth.

In the other classes, Montrose placed second in Class 4A, Olathe placed tenth in Class 2A, Paonia placed first while Cedaredge placed tenth in Class 1A, and Norwood placed second in the 8-man.

Grand Junction, Moffat County, Meeker, Hotchkiss and Rangely all received votes in their respective classes, but did not make the top ten in any of the preseason polls.
