The Colorado Mesa women's basketball home-court winning streak stands at 47 as they return to Brownson Arena this weekend for conference match-ups with Black Hills State and Chadron State.

All winning streaks come to an end at some point. It's now been over three years since the CMU women's basketball team has lost at home, although there certainly have been some close calls. Earlier this season, the Mavs beat Colorado Mines by 2, Colorado Christian by 5, and Regis by 3. Both opponents this weekend are more than capable of ending the Mavericks' winning streak.

Black Hills State beat CMU in double overtime back in December, and currently sits tied for fourth place in the RMAC with CSU Pueblo at 9-6. The Yellow Jackets have lost three of their last four, but in a battle for the coveted #4 position in the RMAC tournament, they will be ready to challenge the Mavericks who come in at 12-3.

The Mavs handled Chadron State in the conference opener in December, but the Eagles have come on in recent weeks winning three in a row against quality opponents in Regis, Metro State, and UC-Colorado Springs. The Eagles are still mathematically in contention for a post season berth, so they will also challenge the Mavs winning streak if it's still in tact Saturday night.

Saturday's game with Chadron will be the 'Swing for Life'  game for CMU alum Kathy Howa's Foundation, benefiting Huntsmans Cancer Research.

Meanwhile, the Maverick men are rebounding from a pair of losses last weekend to Mines and Colorado Christian. The losses drop the Mavericks to 6th place in the standings, but they are just 1 1/2 games behind Fort Lewis for that #4 spot.

The Mavs beat Black Hills State 80-58 back in December, after losing to Chadron State in the conference opener 64-58. Both games should be extremely competitive.

Junior Ryan Stephan has moved into the top 10 in career scoring at CMU after pouring in 57 points last weekend. Stephan ranks second in the league and fourth nationally in points per game, and total field goals made.

The action begins at 5:30 Friday and Saturday with the women's game followed by the men's game both nights. You can listen to Mavericks basketball on the radio at 1230 AM, and on line at www.1230ESPN.com.
