There are two types of people in the world - those that are dreaming of  a white Christmas -- and those that aren't. It won't be long until we know if those Christmas dreams are coming true.

But, for those that want to get their hopes up, the National Weather Service is offering a glimpse of what kind of weather may be coming to western Colorado this Christmas.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (the weather guys) has constructed a map that shows the probability of a white Christmas across the country based on historical data.

Based on information from 1981 to 2010, forecasters are projecting the probability of their being at least one inch of snow on the ground on December 25.

The map shows the likelihood of having a white Christmas this year is about 27%. In Rifle the probability is 49% and in Palisade it's just 9%. Not surprisingly, Ouray's likelihood of a white Christmas is at 93% and in Telluride it's 97%.

Keep in mind, this probability is based solely on historical data and is not based on current weather patterns or long-term projections. In other words, we offer this
"for what it's worth.'

For those with a short memory, here's what Christmas morning looked like at my house one  year ago.  The photo above is also from Christmas Day 2015.
