Have you noticed all the venues around Grand Junction offering popcorn? Obviously, you'll find it at the local movie theaters. Several other places offer it as well, and in many cases, for free. Where will you find the best?

March 8 is Popcorn Lovers Day. It's always on the second Thursday in March. According to Holiday Insights, this day was created on January 6, 2012, by Bob Matthews of Rochester, NY. It's Bob's favorite snack. He and his wife have it on most Thursdays, all year long. Right on, Bob.

The other day I was performing at the Moose Lodge in Grand Junction. Guests could enjoy complimentary popcorn from a machine located by the front door.

Personally, I have no use for popcorn. Haven't had it in decades. Others, though, seem to love the stuff. Lately, it seems as if every bar in the valley is offering complimentary popcorn. This really does make sense. It's salty, and as a result, makes you thirsty for another drink. Costs are low with popcorn, and people eventually get a little tired of pretzels.

It's a little odd that popcorn, as cheap as it is to produce, costs so much at theaters. You pretty much have to take out a second mortgage to buy the bucket-o-cholesterol family-size popcorn at the theater.

I wouldn't know good popcorn from bad. Looking back on childhood, the kind that came in the ready-to-go disposable pan you just threw on the stove was as good as any.

It's probably safe to say there are some true popcorn connoisseurs out there. Cast your vote. If you don't see your selection on the list, write it in, and it will be added.
