Drive down 3rd Street in Grand Junction just north of North Avenue and you'll spot a land development application sign outside of a popular beach bar. What's going on?

Let me say right off the bat there is no cause for alarm. A City of Grand Junction Land Development Application sign is posted in front of Volleys at 1130 N. 3rd Street. Upon seeing it earlier this morning I couldn't help but call the City of GJ to find out what is going on.

If you're not familiar with Volleys, it's a very popular "beach bar" featuring volleyball courts. According to their official Facebook page:

We are more than just VOLLEYBALL! Full menu with smoked bbq options, beer, specialty drinks, cornhole, leagues and tournaments!

In addition to volleyball, drinks, and food, the venue also hosts parties and events including:

  • Graduation Parties
  • Weddings
  • Birthday Parties
  • Bachelor Parties
  • Bachelorette Parties
  • Company Parties
  • Family Reunions

I have to admit I've never visited the place. After seeing the sign, I had to wonder what they were up to.

Upon calling the City of Grand Junction, it was learned via a 12-page report absolutely nothing major was taking place. The business submitted a request for an amendment, looking to make current a Conditional Use Permit. Obviously, those terms don't mean much to the layman, so I asked for a clearer understanding. When it's all said and done, the business is looking to address parking requirements and readdress their current hours of operation.

Whew! Normally, when I see a development sign, something significant such as new construction is in the works. From what I understand, Volleys is a ton of fun and the customers love the place.

Okay, there's nothing to see here, folks. Please move along and return to your normal daily business. This local venue is just looking to amend a couple of matters. That is all.
