What Does ‘Visit Colorado’ Have to Say About Grand Junction?

If you were from out of state and were planning to visit Colorado, what would you expect the website Visit Colorado to say about Grand Junction? What would the city's primary points of interest be? Check out what Visit Colorado says about our fine city.

This is one of those areas where it is hard to be objective. I was born here, as was my mom, my grandparents, and a number of family members going back for generations. If someone were to ask me what Grand Junction's most fascinating attractions were, I'm not entirely sure what I would say. The Colorado National Monument? Wineries? The Grand Mesa? It's hard to say.

The website Visit Colorado offers facts and figures regarding the valley's tourism, economy, weather, and best times to visit. What are the main points of interest mentioned on the site? In no particular order, they are:

• Dinosaur Journey Museum
• Cross Orchards Historic Farm
• Museum of Western Colorado
• Wine country
• Wine tours
• Outdoor adventures
• Canyons and trails including Dominguez Canyon and Riggs Hill
• Hiking
• Biking
• Water rafting
• Horseback riding

Okay, I can go along with that. What Grand Junction area attributes failed to make the list? How about one of the main tourist attractions in the region, Country Jam? I didn't see skiing on the list, either.

According to Visit Colorado, the best time to visit Grand Junction is spring and fall. Why? The site mentions the mild temperatures and lack of rain. It cautions against summer visits due to our temperatures in the 80's and 90's. Unless I'm mistaken, the valley can easily break 100 in the summer.
