Verizon Wireless to Sponsor Eight of Montoya’s Races
Verizon Wireless is expanding its partnership with Team Penske and will sponsor at least eight of Juan Pablo Montoya's races in his return to IndyCar.
Verizon is continuing its full-season sponsorship of Will Power. Verizon will also be the primary sponsor for Power, Montoya and Helio Castroneves at the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Team owner Roger Penske did not have a sponsor for Montoya when the Colombian agreed to leave NASCAR to return to open wheel racing. Penske believed he could find funding for the former Indianapolis 500 winner, and was willing to pay out of pocket to run Montoya if needed.
Now he's got at least eight of the 17 races covered.
