Snow and Ice Force Partial Closure of Colorado National Monument Rimrock Drive
Those wanting to take a drive over the Colorado National Monument will need to revise their plans as poor road conditions have forced the closure of part of Rimrock Drive.
Just before Noon today (January 20), officials determined both the current snowfall and expected additional snow made the closure of Rimrock Drive over the top of the Colorado National Monument necessary.
A portion of the road from both the east and west entrances will remain open, weather permitting.
Even with the inability to drive completely through the area, there's still plenty of great scenery - enhanced by snow - for viewing and photographing.
Depending on the weather, hiking on some of the lower trails may be possible, but the slippery conditions greatly increase the risk of falling and injury.
