Antique and vintage equipment displayed outdoors at the Montrose County Historical Museum needs a shelter to protect it from the elements and the museum is looking for donations to help finish the project.

The Montrose Historical Society is the official organization that preserves the local history of the area including historical information and artifacts.

The shelter will be 18-feet by 60-feet and will have a metal covering of simulated tile to match the roof of the museum which is located in the old Denver and Rio Grande building on Main Street at Grand Avenue.

The museum needs $69,000 to complete the project. The Historical Society board has already pledged $9,000. Grants are also being sought to cover some of the cost. The Historical Society is also asking Montrose residents and businesses to make donations.

One of the pieces that need shelter is a wooden belly dump wagon used to build roads in Montrose.

Those needing more information or wanting to donate can go to the Museum's website or call Zilla Mae Brown at 970-323-6466.
