The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that several inmates have contracted scabies in the Mesa County Jail.

Just yesterday (September 7) the Mesa County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that there is indeed a case of scabies in the jail. If you're like me, you might not be sure what scabies are. According to WebMD:

Scabies is not an infection, but an infestation. Tiny mites set up shop in the outer layer of human skin. As the bites burrow and lay eggs inside the skin, the infestation leads to relentless itching and an angry rash.

Now that we know what scabies are, it sounds pretty terrible. Inmates who have contracted scabies or are suspected to, have been quarantined in the Mesa county Jail.

The Mesa County jail has 11 inmates quarantined in one section of a housing unit at the jail, according to KKCO. Inmates (both those that have contracted scabies are are suspected to) are being given oral medication.

According to KKCO, clothing and bedding will be changed out, bagged and isolated before it's washed. Until the quarantine is lifted, only professional visitors will be allowed at the Mesa County Jail.
