Oakland, the winningest team in baseball with 72 wins, starts a series tonight in Kansas City against the hottest team in the game.

The Royals have won seven straight and nine of 10 to move within a half-game of first-place Detroit in the American League Central. The Athletics start the night with a four game lead over the Angels in the AL West. The pitching matchup tonight has Sonny Gray going for the A's against Yordano Ventura. Gray enters the game with 12 wins on the season. This is the opening game of a three-game series.

First-place Baltimore of the AL East is home tonight to the third-place Yankees. New York enters the game six games back of the O's and tonight's game is the first of three.

The Dodgers and Braves kick off a four-game series tonight in Atlanta. Visiting Los Angeles starts the week with a 4 ½ game lead over the Giants in the National League West while the Braves are four games back of first-place Washington the NL East.

The rest of tonight's schedule has the Mets playing the Phillies in Philadelphia; the Tigers opening a series with the Pirates in Pittsburgh; Miami at home to St. Louis; the Rays in Arlington against Texas; Houston home to Minnesotap; the Blue Jays, fresh off that 19-inning game Sunday with Detroit, in Seattle; and the Padres entertaining the Rockies.
