Colorado Law Would Make it Legal to Smash A Windshield
A proposed new Colorado law would make it legal for you to smash somebody's windshield in an attempt to rescue a pet from a hot car.
The law, proposed by a northern Colorado state representative, would protect people from prosecution or civil action if they break someone's car window for the sake of saving an animal in extreme conditions.
Every summer, local authorities deal with pets left in hot, unattended cars in Grand Junction parking lots. Some people still don't get it.
According to 9 News, there are three contingencies connected to the proposal
- An effort has to be made to find the owner of the car.
- The car must be locked.
- And law enforcement must be called before anything is done.
Other states that have similar laws including Florida, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Grand Junction is one of the hottest places in the state during the summer. Do you think the proposed law is a good idea for Colorado?
Would the law be abused by well-meaning good samaritans? Or would such a law make it less likely that pet owners would leave pets in a potentially dangerous situation?
