The moment we've all anticipated has finally happened. At least two areas of Western Colorado's Riverfront Trail are closed due to high water.

With last year's lackluster runoff, there were points along the Colorado River where you could almost walk from one bank to the other without getting your feet wet. As anticipated, 2019 is a different story.

In the last 48 hours, One Riverfront has posted twice on their official Facebook page regarding area trail closures.

Yesterday, we closed the Kokopelli Section of the Colorado Riverfront Trail due to high water. Gates have been closed and locked. We will monitor the water levels and trail accessibility and re-open when water is off the trail and the dirt / silt has been brushed off. - June 4, 2019 at 2:25 p.m.

I wanted to let you know that we currently have water across Monument View Trail just below the Redlands Parkway Bridge. Our crews are setting up a detour that will take trail traffic from Jr Service League Park to 22 3/4 Rd. along the Riverside Parkway. - June 3, 2019 at 1:40 p.m.

According to One Riverfront, signage is in place, and in some instances, detours have been established.

If you visit these trails, then you're already aware situations such as this are nothing new. The photo at the top was taken in 2016. The photo below was taken at the same time. The location below is the same as the Monument View Trail currently affected.

They won't have to tell me twice. I don't believe I'll be camping in that bog anytime soon.

Don't let these closures dissuade you from utilizing the awesome Riverfront Trail. There's still miles and miles of the trail waiting for you walk. These closures are only temporary and represent only a minor inconvenience.
