Orioles Get Jimenez, Sign Yoon...Hawkins to Close

The Baltimore Orioles were able to retool their starting rotation on Monday by acquiring a pair of free agents.

A person familiar with the situation says the Birds and Ubaldo Jimenez (oo-BAHL'-doh hih-MEH'-nehz) have agreed to a contract, pending a physical. Several media outlets reported earlier that the sides had reached an agreement, which is reportedly for about $50 million over four years.

Jimenez went 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 32 starts for Cleveland last season.

South Korean right-hander Suk-min Yoon and the O's have finalized to a three-year contract for just over $5.5 million, a deal that could escalate to $13,075,000 if the pitcher starts 26 or more games each season. The 27-year-old was 73-59 with a 3.19 ERA in nine seasons with the KIA Tigers in the Korean Baseball Organization.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss has named 41-year-old LaTroy Hawkins as his closer. Hawkins was with the Rockies in 2007 and saved 13 games last season for the New York Mets. The Rockies made several offseason moves to bolster a bullpen that had a National League-worst 4.23 ERA last season.

— Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (peh-DROY'-uh) says his left thumb feels fine three months after surgery. Pedroia had an operation to repair the ulnar collateral ligament he tore in last year's season opener when he slid into first base in the ninth inning of an 8-2 win at Yankee Stadium.
