Minnesota State-Mankato’s football team is hoping the new season will produce headlines for their play on the field rather than the controversy they’ve experienced behind the scenes.

Head coach Todd Hoffner has returned to coach Minnesota State, after facing child pornography charges and being banished from the school for two years. Hoffner has since been fully exonerated of the charges.

Players have also readjusted to having Hoffner back, and looking towards solidifying their status as an NCAA Division II power.

First game for the Mavericks is tonight against St. Cloud State.
