A Western Colorado woman reported being the victim of an attempted carjacking Thursday evening in Clifton. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office seeks your information to help identify the suspect.

The woman claims at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, the suspect approached her vehicle at the stoplight at 32 Road and E Road. After a failed attempt to open the door, he reached through the vehicle's window. The victim managed to drive away without harm.

Have you seen the suspect? He is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • late 30's to early 40's
  • blondish-brown hair
  • scruffy beard
  • eye glasses
  • blue t-shirt

I certainly don't mean to make light of the situation, but it sounds like she just described me, right down to the blue t-shirt.

For the record, I was at a rehearsal with the Western Colorado Jazz Orchestra at the time these events occurred. More than a dozen people saw me. Then again, most of those people were horn and sax players, and most of the time they're not certain about anything.

The suspect was seen getting into a 90's model tan Toyota 4-door pickup.

If you have any information as to the identity of the suspect, call the Mesa County Sheriff's Office at (970) 242-6707.
