David Lake was found guilty of first-degree murder on Tuesday in the 2017 beating death of a three-year-old girl in Colorado Springs.

Lake was immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the death of Bella Ritch in October of 2017. Medical personnel and personnel from the Crimes Against Children Unit that arrived on the scene found the child to be unresponsive so she was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries. An autopsy performed found her injuries to be blunt force trauma.

Lake, 28, of Fountain, Colorado,  who had been dating the child's mother at the time the incident occurred was convicted of first-degree murder of a person under 12 by a person in a position of trust.

Lake was arrested in April of 2018 without incident.
