Lake Christine Fire In Garfield County Continues To Grow
The Basalt area in Garfield County is under siege from yet another wildfire in Colorado.
This fire started as a result of "tracer rounds" fired at a gun range on Tuesday, and the fire continues to grow. 500 residents have been asked to evacuate because of the flames that threaten the towns of Basalt and El Jebel.
Evacuation orders were sent out for residents of Missouri Heights and are being directed toward the Red Cross shelter set up in Carbondale, having been moved from Basalt High School due to the fire growing.
Additionally, due to the high number of large animals in the area, a shelter has been set up for them as well at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle. But they are in need of a number of things as well. Five-gallon buckets and hay are in dire need, and all hay used will be tracked and any unused hay will be returned to the person who donated it.
If you can help with those and other possible items, contact the Fairgrounds office at (970) 625-2514 and they will let you know what is needed at that moment,
As more information becomes available we will be sure to pass it along, but as of this writing, 2,700 acres have burned.
