Interstate 70 travelers are needing to find alternate routes this morning because of closure through Glenwood Canyon.

A rock side overnight has forced the closure of the interstate in both directions between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero, mile marker 116 to 133.

Officials have not estimated how long the closure will last but have indicated that this is an extended closure. They are advising I-70 motorists to find alternate routes this morning.

The suggested alternate route for eastbound motorists is from Rifle to Craig and then to Steamboat Springs and CO  131 south to Wolcott and I-70.

UPDATE:Eastbound I-70 is now open through Glenwood Canyon, but as of 3:30pm, westbound lanes remain closed with no estimated time of reopening.
