A Grand Junction Police Department officer recovered a stolen electric shopping cart near Walmart last Friday night and had a fun time doing it, too. Officer Gonzalez found the motorized cart nearby and took it for a test drive.

The Grand Junction Police Department's Facebook page reports someone "borrowed" this cart last Friday night, and forgot to return it.

According to Wikipedia, several cases of theft involving electric shopping carts have resulted in felony charges. A man in Florida was charged with felony theft of a motorized cart back in 2009. The reason for the felony charge? The motorized cart had a value of $2,500. Had the cart been a good, old-fashioned type, he would have been charged with a misdemeanor.

Wikipedia reports another instance where two South Carolina men were charged with a felony after the theft of a $2,000 cart.

Please use the carts to do your shopping, and then get it back to the store. Friends don't let friends drive stolen electric shopping carts from Walmart.
