Right on Grand Junction! The St. Mary's Regional Blood Center's Bloodmobile made an appearance at the River City Real Estate Downtown Farmers Market Thursday evening, and was literally filled to capacity.

Donors came out in such large numbers the Bloodmobile ran out of bags to collect blood. Phlebotomists began taking blood donations shortly after 6:00 Thursday evening. By 6:10, they found themselves with their hands full. By 7:00, they began turning people away due to the large number of donors.

Please don't think means the blood bank has all the blood they need. Summer is always a slow time for donations. Keep in mind, Grand Junction recently endured a blood shortage.

The St. Mary's Blood Center is open Monday through Saturday at 7th and Patterson. Due to the great response last night, there are already plans in the works to have the Bloodmobile back at the farmers market next month.

Kudos to you, Grand Junction. A very special "thanks" goes out to Western Colorado's Costa Vida and Central Station, both of which contributed gifts for those who donated.
