Two Western Colorado Bands, Stray Grass and the Desert Flyer Band, came together last Saturday night at Grand Junction High School for a fundraiser benefiting GJHS band students. Several of the performers were graduates of the school. Take a look back at the fun and craziness at this outstanding event.

Organizer Ray Bonelli and the members of the Grand Junction High School Band Parents Inc. have put together a couple of fundraisers over the last few years. This year's event leaned towards Country and Bluegrass Music.

Ticket sales for the event hosted at Grand Junction High School Auditorium were excellent. Proceeds from the event went towards new equipment for the band students.

On stage that night were several graduates and former band students from Grand Junction High School:

  • Bob Sours (Desert Flyer Band) GJHS class of 1969
  • Max McFarland (Desert Flyer Band) GJHS class of 1986
  • Garry Tullio (Stray Grass) GJHS class of 1988
  • Waylon Jordan (Desert Flyer Band) GJHS class of 1988

For one of the performs, Bob Sours, this was his first time back on the GJHS auditorium stage since his graduation in 1969. One of the performers, Max McFarland, has a son who presently performs with the GJHS band program.

The event was absolutely outstanding. Look forward to future concerts in this series. The event's organizer, Ray Bonelli, expects to host a similar event as early as January 2017.
