Would you like to spend the summer of 2021 serving as a representative at the Colorado National Monument? Just think, you could get paid to answer questions and offer guidance. Here's how.

The Colorado National Monument's visitor use assistant positions are open now. This is your chance to apply for next summer's jobs.

This sounds like fun. You'll get to meet with visitors, answer questions, monitor sites and maintain relations with park partners and concessions while performing "roving patrols" throughout the park.

To break all that down into finer detail, job responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the daily operation of a seasonal contact station
  • Responds verbally to visitor questions
  • Site monitoring and resource protection.
  • Provide visitor services including patrol, roving, fixed post assignments, and public programs
  • Operates two-way radio equipment (fun!)
  • The public can include individuals who are distressed, confused, frustrated, difficult, or even hostile (you may want to ask for more details about this one when applying for the job)

How much does this pay? Well, that depends. According to usajobs.gov, the pay grade for this gig ranges from $13.32 to $16.73 per hour. On occasion, it may be necessary to travel.

For a complete list of requirements for this job, please check out the detailed description at usajobs.gov. In addition to the Colorado National Monument, similar job positions are available at three parks in Utah.

Now is the time to apply. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time by December 11, 2020. In addition, the application is open to the first 250 applicants, so don't delay.
