It is said that necessity is the mother of invention, and when you look at these five inventions you can see how true that statement is.

These five inventions were brought about because of five Colorado inventors who saw a need and created something to fill that need. Take a look.

The creators of the Otterbox saw a need to protect cell phones from damage, water and other disasters so they created a cell phone cover to protect it.

Created by three outdoor lovers from Boulder, Colorado, these shoes are both comfortable and extremely wearable no matter what you're doing. And while wearers of these little gems sometimes get a hard time, you can't argue with success. Or comfort.

Up until a Denver man named Henry Perky invented a way to process wheat into strips in 1890, no one had ever given it a thought. I owe that man a debt of gratitude because I love these things.

I am so glad the inventors of the Jolly Rancher candies, Bill and Dorothy Harmsen were not successful in creating ice cream, because if they had been, we may never have had the pleasure of looking forward to opening a Jolly Rancher candy.

Created by a Grand Junction native, Ryan Patterson was still in high school when he came up with the idea to translate sign language into the spoken word through these gloves. Ryan created these in 2002 and is now working for NASA.
