It's never a good idea to drink and drive – and when a person chooses to do this, on top of also travelling at speeds that are well over the limit, it can only lead to a bad ending. Fortunately, this weekend in Weld County, when a 25-year-old man chose to get behind the wheel after drinking, plus drive at speeds that were 35 miles per hour over the limit, no one was injured, including himself. However it did land him behind bars, and rightfully so.

On Sunday, July 28, at approximately 2:22 a.m., a deputy with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office clocked a vehicle reaching speeds of approximately 100-mph on Highway 34, in a 65-mph zone. The deputy chased the driver for nearly three miles from where he was originally caught speeding, due to how fast he was going.

Once stopped, it was determined that the driver, 25-year-old McKechnie was intoxicated, and he was placed into custody. McKechnie is now being charged with Speeding (25-mph to 39-mph), Failed to Drive in Single Lane (Weaving), Failed to Provide Proof of Insurance, Possession of Open Alcoholic Container in MV, and Driving Under the Influence.
