Colorado's Best Beer is called a Surette. It's a Belgian Saison.

The magazine Men's Fitness has named the top beers in each state. What an awesome job THAT would be. Taste testing beers all day long.

Congratulations to the Crooked Stave Brewery in Denver for claiming the top prize. Owner Chad Yakobson gives us an inside look at the recipe and what makes this beer a winner.

It's made with wheat, oats, rye, and spelt, the vinous Surette gets its zesty edge from Lactobacillus, the souring bacteria that transforms milk into yogurt.

Wait, yogurt in beer? Have we jumped the beer shark? Whatever happened to the good old days of grabbing some PBRs and throwing them in a cooler and hitting the golf course. We never really put that much thought into a beer.

But, maybe that's why no one has ever given me an award for my knowledge of hops.

What's the best beer here on the Western Slope? Let us know.
