Colorado To Get Over $1 Million to Address School Violence

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced it is giving the state of Colorado over $1 million to help address school violence issues.

According to the press release, U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn said, in part:

“The Department of Justice continues to recognize the importance of providing funds to proactively address school shootings,” Dunn said in a press release. “Students should feel safe in their school and in their classrooms. This grant is an important step to making sure they feel safe and are safe.”

The Colorado Division of Homeland Security received a grant totaling $999,987 that is designed to help schools by providing the ability to use threat assessments and other tools to help keep students and administrators safe.

The Hayden School District also received grant money, totaling $43,868 to strengthen their school security.

The money was made available as a result of legislation signed by President Trump in 2018 known as the STOP School Violence Act, giving the Department of Justice the ability to award grants totaling $85.3 million to address the violence issues in schools.
