A Colorado Mesa University student is dead after falling four stories from a campus building.

According to our news partner KKCO-TV, the Grand Junction Police and Fire Departments were notified at about 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning (January 24) of a man lying on the ground on campus. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The deceased man has been identified as 20-year-old Spencer Pannwitz of Parker, Colorado. According to the Mesa County Coroner's Office, Pannwitz died of multiple injuries although a specific manner of death has not been confirmed.

Grand Junction Police believes the fall from the fourth floor of a campus building was an accident, but have not determined the exact cause or circumstances surrounding the fall.

In a written statement to faculty and students, Colorado Mesa University President Tim Foster expressed his grief and confirmed the deceased was a student. Foster also said the university would be providing counseling services to those who needed them.
