The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks will face a stiff challenge this Saturday (November 2) when they take on undefeated and nationally ranked CSU Pueblo. The third-ranked Thunderwolves have won 28 straight conference games, and three straight against the Mavericks.

The Mavericks suffered their first loss at home last Saturday when they fell to Colorado School of Mines 27-10 at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction. The Mavs led 3-0 going into the fourth quarter before the Orediggers exploded for 27 points. CSU Pueblo (8-0, 6-0) defeated Black Hills State last week 51-17.

With a 5-3 record, 4-2 in the RMAC, a conference championship may be slipping from their grasp, but the Mavs still have a chance for their first winning season since 2008 when they went 6-5. After Pueblo, CMU will travel to Gunnison to take on Western State, and will finish the season at home against Adams State.

The Mavericks know what they are up against in a team that this week was ranked #1 in the NCAA Division II Super Regional Rankings. But, Head Coach Russ Martin says his team is just focusing on getting better and executing in all facets of the game.

"They are a very good football team, but they aren't invincible. It's going to come down again to us executing what we need to execute. If we take care of our business --we are the only team we can control- but if we do that we will have the opportunity to win that football game."

Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 6:00pm at the Thunderbowl in Pueblo.
