The Colorado Mesa Mavericks will wrap up their season Saturday at home against Adams State. Kickoff at Stocker Stadium is slated for 12 noon.

For the Mavericks,(6-4, 4-4) it's been a season of highs and lows, glorious victories, and disappointments. The biggest disappointment came last week when the Mavericks lost to Western State 31-7 in Gunnison. A win by the Mavericks would have secured their first winning season since 2008. Now, they must beat the Grizzlies on Saturday to get to 6-5.

Adams State (5-5, 4-4) lost to Colorado Mines last weekend 45-10, and has lost two in a row. The Mavericks are on a three-game losing streak, but are 3-1 on their home field this season.  The Mavericks are 14-2 against the Grizzlies in Grand Junction, but have lost eight of the last 10 meetings between the two clubs. A win by the Mavericks would land them a fourth place finish in the conference.

Head Coach Russ Martin's team is banged up with a lot of injuries, some of which will keep players off the field. But he says he's confident his team will come out and play a good game on Saturday.

"This time of year there's not a lot of guys who are truthfully healthy. There's a lot of guys who are tough and they are playing through it, and that's what we have to do. Hopefully we can put pain aside for that next game and say, you know what, we are going to lay it on the line and were gonna come out and get it."

The Mavericks still lead the nation in interceptions with 22, and they lead the conference in red zone defense. With an offense that has been struggling to put points on the board, the Mavericks defense will be a big key to beating Adams State and secure a long-awaited winning season.
