The Colorado High School Activities Association has suspended Colorado high school sports activities until early April.

In a statement on the CHSAA website, the high school sports association stated that sports activities are suspended due to the growing concern over novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The 2020 spring sports season — including all practices and competition — the state speech tournament, and student leadership's Advisor U are suspended through April 6. All music festivals are canceled through April 6.

The suspension of activities will go into effect on Friday, March 13.

CHSAA commissioner Rhonda Blanford-Green and other directors from around the state met digitally to create a collaborative plan and came to the decision to follow the CHSAA's suggestion. Blanford-Green said:

"I want to thank the Board of Directors, membership and CHSAA staff for their support and guidance. The collaborative decision-making has been in the best interest of our students and school communities, and it hasn't gone unnoticed."

More information will become available on the CHSAA website.

District 51 released this message on their website:

All student and staff activities previously scheduled for today (March 12) will continue as planned.
