Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson has been suspended by the NHL for two games without pay yesterday for slashing New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen.

The incident occurred at 12:09 of the third period of Colorado's 5-2 win on Saturday. Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for slashing.

It was Colorado's last game before the Olympic break. The Avs' next game will be Feb. 26 against Los Angeles.
