Apparent Suicidal Man Barricades Self in Fruita Home

The Fruita Police Department responded to shots fired at a residence in the 900 block of 19 Road. Upon arrival, they found a 'suicidal' man barricaded himself inside the residence.

When officers tried to make contact, the male was uncooperative and believed to be intoxicated and suicidal.

During the incident, 50 residents in the area were notified to shelter in place, while the area of J and 19 Roads was closed.

aThe Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Grand Junction Police Department tried to make contact with the individual, but were unsuccessful. Authorities believe they found the gun used, but the individual remains at large.

They will continue to investigate this incident.

Fruita Monument High School and Fruita 8/9 School will continue as scheduled with heightened security and patrols. No threats have been made towards the school.
