Due to heavy law enforcement presence, all Central High School student activities have been canceled.

Central High School parents are being asked to go to Longs Park to pick up their students.

Around 1:40 p.m., Central High School was put on shelter-in-place due to heavy police activity while they searched for a potential person with a gun near the school.

Around 2:30 p.m., both Grand Junction High School and Grand Mesa Middle school were also in shelter-in-place.

At 2:55 p.m., District 51 schools released this statement:

At this time, we are planning for school Grand Mesa Middle School and Central High School to release on time. Both schools will be on a controlled release. Bus riders will be released first, then student drivers. Parents will have to present an ID to pick up students. Walkers will need to be picked up. You will see an increased law enforcement presence at all three schools while deputies continue to look for the person reported to have a gun. Again no reports of shots fired and no reports of injuries.

We'll update this post as more information becomes available.
