They are coming to Grand Junction and here are 5 things you didn't know about Los Lobos.

Los Lobos will be in concert Monday, August 14 at the Amphitheater at Las Colonias Park, along with Los Lonely Boys. Tickets available online.

  • Wolves of the East of Los Angeles

Los Lobos originally called themselves Los Lobos del Este (de Los Angeles) when they formed in 1973. It didn't take long and the name was shortened to Los Lobos.

  • In the Movies

Their song "One Time, One Night" was featured during the opening credits of the 1988 movie "Colors" starring Sean Penn and Robert Duvall. Strangely, the song was excluded from the movie sound track. That same year they recorded the smash hit "La Bamba" for the movie about Richie Valens.

  • Hall of Fame Whispers

In 2015, Los Lobos was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the first time. For most bands, it takes a long time to get there, so hopefully, their time will come. They have opened for the likes of Bob Dylan, U2, and The Grateful Dead.

  • High on Talent

Original founding member David Hidalgo is quite a talented musician. His instrumental proficiency includes accordion, violin, 6-string banjo, cello, requinto jarocho, percussion, drums, and guitar.

  • Grammy Awards

The band has won three Grammy Awards to date, including Best Pop Instrumental Performance for "Mariachi Suite" in 1995.
