Winter Park Resort is pushing back its opening day to Saturday so snowmaking crews can take advantage of cold weather this week.

The Denver Post reports the resort was scheduled to open Wednesday but, like other ski areas in Colorado, struggled to make snow because of unseasonably warm weather.

Resort officials say the delayed opening will give crews three extra days to make sure conditions are up to the quality visitors expect.

Winter Park is about 45 miles northwest of Denver.
