Corn mazes are all the rage this time of year, and Western Colorado has more than a few. When making your way through a corn maze, do any special rules apply?

One Western Colorado corn maze, the Deltondo Corn Maze, released a set of rules. If you stop and think about it, these all make perfect sense. Here's a crash course in Corn Maze 101.

  • No smoking or open flames of any kind. (I think there will be very few objections to this one)
  • No drugs or alcohol
  • No vandalism: do not pick, throw, or damage corn or anything else in maze
  • No running or horseplay.
  • Please stay on the paths - no shortcuts - shortcuts can cause damage
  • Be courteous, no scaring or disrespecting others
  • Please use porta-potty if needed (as opposed to what? Oh, gross!)
  • Please keep maze clean
  • Use trash cans that are provided

I think you'll agree on the first rule, no open flames, is a goody. Imagine how quickly that could turn catastrophic. Please keep in mind, these are the published rules for one particular corn maze in Western Colorado. Rules may vary (and probably do).

The Deltondo Corn Maze can be found on East Highway 50, just past the Montrose Trade Center. They are open on Fridays and Sundays from 1 pm to 6 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm, through October 30. The costs are:

  • $5 - Kids 6 and under
  • $7 - Seniors and kids 7 - 11
  • $8 - 12 years old and up

Make plans to enjoy one of the area's many corn mazes. Be sure to use your head. Every year there are reports of people who get not only lost, but completely lost, and rescue teams have to be called in. Enjoy, but play it safe.
