A day after the flurry of high-profile trade deadline deals, major league baseball gets back to a sense of normalcy with a 15-game schedule, all under the lights.

The highlight is a showdown between NL Central leader Milwaukee and the second-place Cardinals in St. Louis. The Cards send out Adam Wainwright, who will be trying to become the first 14-game winner in the majors. He takes a 1.92 ERA into the start. The Brewers look to staff ace Wily Peralta (WIH'-lee peh-RAHL'-tah) to help protect their two-game lead. He takes a 12-6 mark into the series opener.

Chris Sale tries to ride his July success into August when he gets the starting assignment for the White Sox at home against Minnesota tonight. Sale blew through July giving up just three earned runs to lower his major league-leading ERA to 1.88. He's 10-1.

The NL West-leading Dodgers take a six-game winning streak into the start of their home series against the Cubs tonight. Dan Haran takes the mound for Los Angeles hoping to turn around his July performance. He went 0-4 last month to drop to 8-8.

Oakland continues to have the best record in the majors and hopes to keep it going tonight at home against Kansas City. Sonny Gray takes a six-game winning streak and 12-3 record into the start for the Athletics. He didn't give up more than one earned run in any of his five July starts to lower his ERA to 2.65.

Doug Fister has been nearly as good for Washington. He's scheduled tonight at home against Philadelphia. He will be looking to win his sixth straight decision. The 10-game winner is 5-0 in his last six starts, with a 2.21 ERA.
