Fruita Monument High School Football Coach, Todd Casebier, has been chosen as Coach of the Year in School District 51.

Coaches from all sports are nominated by the students at schools throughout the district.

This year, there were 27 nominations for 19 different coaches. A selection committee reviews the nominations, which are judged by the following criteria; Responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and excellence (RISE).

Casebier was nominated by Fruita Monument High School (FMHS) senior Luken Blair. Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates Outreach Coordinator, Mike Zamora, explains how the committee selected Casebier as the coach of the year;

Luken wrote a fantastic essay. “His description of Casebier truly exemplified the RISE principles we were looking for, which brought Casebier to the top of the list.”

Other finalists for the award include;

  • Kerri Bensley - Fruita Monument High School Poms
  • Adam Diaz - Grand Junction High School Softball
  • Aaron Eggiman - Fruita Monument High School Lacrosse
  • Ryan Hayden - Central High School Basketball
  • Kris Means - Central High School Track and Field

The award ceremony will be on Monday (May 23) at 12:15 p.m. at Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates. In addition to the coaches award, the FMHS athletic department will receive $1,000 to be used for athletic programs at the school.

Students can nominate a coach for the Coach of the Year award anytime during the school year.
