You may not have even realized it has been illegal to carry this weapon for over 50 years, but soon it will be perfectly legal to carry it in Colorado.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has signed legislation that will make it legal to carry a switchblade.  According to the Denver Post, the knife has been banned in Colorado since 1963, though exactly how strictly the law has been enforced is questionable.

I would imagine that plenty of people have a switchblade, and it seems doubtful that they are generally used as a weapon outside of the gang scene. But, when you think about it, a switchblade makes a lot of sense as a weapon, especially for those that don't want to carry a gun.

Face it. Guns are expensive to own and to operate. Switchblades are not. And while knives have their limitations, it seems that having a knife for protection would be better than nothing at all.

Switchblades in Colorado will officially become legal August 9, though I doubt that a cop would bust you for having one on you between now and then.
