Here is the good news and bad news you should know about those Easter peeps you are enjoying.

Some 700 million peeps are eaten by Americans each year. Though there are lovers and there are haters, the bottom line is, Peeps are a part of Easter tradition.

The good news about Peeps from a health perspective is that they are fat free.  You will find no calories from fat,  zero grams of fat, and zero grams of saturated fat. So, everybody say yay for fat- free!

Here is more good news. Peeps are gluten free! Hey, grab an extra package!

But, then, there is the bad news. In one serving of peeps, that's five small marshmallow chicks, you will take in 34 grams of sugar. You might not want to know this, ladies, but that is nearly twice the daily  amount of sugar recommended by the American Heart Association. For men, that's pretty much your daily allotment.

The news doesn't get any better if you want to talk about the carbs in peeps. That one serving of peeps is about 12% of your recommended daily allowance.

So, as it turns out, Peeps are not exactly a vision of healthful Easter eating. However, if you are planning to stuff yourself beyond capacity at a Sunday brunch, well, you might as well go ahead and indulge in some Peeps while you're at it. If you don't feel guilty about Sunday's over-indulgence, you should not feel bad about downing a few Peeps.
