Serena Williams Ousted at French Open

There's been a shocker at the French Open as women's top seed and defending champion Serena Williams lost her second-round match to unseeded Garbine Muguruza (GAR'-been moo-guh-ROO'-zuh) of Spain, 6-2, 6-2.

This marks her earliest exit from a major tournament since falling in the first round in the French Open two years ago. The 17-time major winner shrugged off the loss saying, "it was one of those days."

Her loss came just a short time after her unseeded sister Venus was eliminated by 19-year-old Anna Schmiedlova 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. This is the eighth time in Venus' last nine major tournaments that she has failed to win more than one match.

There haven't been any surprises so far today on the men's side of things. Second seed Novak Djokovic (JOHK'-uh-vich) advanced to the third round with a straight-sets win over 42nd-ranked Jeremy Chardy, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. Djokovic is trying to become the eighth man to compete a career Grand Slam with a win in Paris.
