Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer of the Tigers pitches for the first time this season as Detroit entertains Kansas City this afternoon.

Over the past two seasons Scherzer has a record of 5-0 with a 2.86 earned run average against the Royals. In the other day games in the American League Chicago is hosting Minnesota and Cleveland wraps up its season-opening series in Oakland with two games against the Athletics. Their schedule game last night was rained out and is being played this evening following the regularly scheduled afternoon contest.

On tap tonight, Ubaldo Jimenez (oo-BAHL'-doh hih-MEN'-ez) toes the rubber for the first time as a member or the Orioles as Baltimore plays host to the World Champion Red Sox. The O's won the season opener on Monday, 2-1. Tampa Bay is home to the Blue Jays while the Yankees are in Houston for another game with the Astros and Seattle is in Anaheim playing the Angels.

There's just one day game in the National League and that contest has the Brewers at home to the Braves. Aaron Harang is pitching for the Braves against Milwaukee's Matt Garza. His $50 million four-year deal is the richest in club history as a free agent.

Tonight in the senior circuit the Cubs play the Pirates in Pittsburgh, Miami is hosting Colorado, the Cardinals are in Cincinnati to face the Reds again, the Mets are entertaining the Nationals, San Francisco is at Arizona and the Padres and Dodgers end their season-open set.

The lone interleague game has Texas once again playing host to the Phillies.
