I have no doubt that a great many Grand Valley hikers have done the Rough Canyon Hike, but for those that haven't, I'm giving it two thumbs up.

Of course, my assessment is based upon half of a hike - which is why this post is titled "Part One".

I was wanting to take Frisco, our 10-year-old black lab mix, on a hike, but about 3/4 of a mile in I realized this was not a hike best suited for dogs- at least not a 10-year-old. For a while, the trail is nothing notable or challenging, but, eventually, it becomes pretty rocky and difficult for anyone with four legs.

Not wanting to risk injury to Frisco, we turned around and I decided I would do the rest of the hike at a later date by myself. However, the first part of this hike was so scenic I thought it was worth sharing. When I get to the last half of the hike I will share Part Two with you.

You'll find Rough Canyon in the Bangs Canyon area up Little Park Road, and  shares a trail head with the Mica Mines trail. If you are a hiker and haven't tried this one yet, I whole-heartedly recommend it.
