Tuesday evening at 7:25, a rollover accident occurred at the stoplight at Broadway and West Avenue in Grand Junction. In this particular case, the accident happened directly in front of me. I can't help but think that one common factor might have contributed to this accident.

This crash was the result of one vehicle running the stoplight while heading west on Broadway. The car struck a white SUV heading north on West Avenue.

One problem most drivers experience when driving westward on Broadway during evening hours involves the setting sun. When traveling west at sunset, drivers are frequently blinded by the direct sunlight. Stoplights become virtually impossible to see.

Of course, I have no idea what caused the westbound motorist to run the stoplight. When it occurred, I was the next car immediately behind that vehicle. Other witnesses were able to reach those in the turned over vehicle before me. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. How anyone escaped injury in this crash is an absolute mystery.

Off the top of my head, I can think of several friends who've been involved in accidents at this intersection. It really is difficult to see the stoplight during certain times of the day.

If your course takes you down this road during the evening hours, please keep a sharp eye out for the stoplights. They can be hard to see. Take extra caution when approaching intersections.
