Did you know the largest collection of archaeological sites in the United States is in Southwest Colorado?

Canyons of the Ancients National Monument located near Cortez contains over 6,000 individual archaeological sites. Up to 100 per square mile in some places. The ruins represent the Puebloans, dating back to around 1500 B.C.

History buffs could have a heyday exploring these ancient ruins and learning about the ancient culture in the Anasazi Heritage Center.

There are trails for hiking, biking, and four-wheeling so you could spend a couple of hours here or take the entire day to explore.

If you are looking for a new family adventure this year, just head to southwest Colorado and experience this ancient Colorado civilization.
