Riverfront Concert Features New Orleans-Formed Subdudes

Tickets are still available for the next riverfront concert July 20, featuring the New Orleans-formed group the Subdudes.

Describing the music of the Subdudes is a bit challenging, but in their words, the music is zydeco, blues, rock and roll, and soul.

It's quite possible you haven't heard of the Subdudes before now, but the fact is, they have essentially been around for nearly 30 years. Guitars, percussion, and accordion along with vocal harmonies produced the unique sound that is the Subdudes.

The band started in 1987, and on a couple of occasions called it quits, only to reunite and continue on. In 2014, all of the original members came together for the first time in 17 years to do a "few select shows." Their Facebook page lists their hometown as New Orleans and Fort Collins.

The Colorado Riverfront Concert Series is one of the "select" shows as they bring their unique blend and style to Western Colorado. The concert, being held at the James M. Robb Colorado State Park in Fruita, is a fundraiser for the Colorado Riverfront Commission.

Tickets are still available at area City Markets for $3.

• Gates open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7p.m.
• Free parking with four or more people in the vehicle, otherwise you pay a $7 park pass fee.
• Wine, beer, soft drinks, water, pizza, and ice cream will be available for purchase. You are allowed to bring in your own cooler or basket of food.
• No outside beverages area allowed in.
• You may bring lawn chairs, coolers, and a flashlight.
• Do not bring blankets, tarps, pets, cigarettes, or professional cameras.
