The Chargers and Redskins each won on Saturday. Here’s a recap of the day’s action:

Chargers 38, 49ers 35 (OT)

Nick Novak kicked a game-winning 40-yard field goal in overtime, and the San Diego Chargers rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat the San Francisco 49ers, 38-35, in Santa Clara, Calif. on Saturday night. The victory allowed the Chargers to stay in the hunt for an AFC wild-card spot.

San Francisco had first-half leads of 21-0 and 28-7, but San Diego charged back into the game with a second-half rally keyed by Philip Rivers. The veteran quarterback threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game — an 11-yard toss to Malcom Floyd — with 29 seconds left in regulation to help send the contest to overtime.

The 49ers had a chance to win in regulation, but Phil Dawson’s 60-yard field goal as time expired came up short. San Francisco took the first possession of the extra session into Chargers’ territory, but Quinton Patton’s fumble turned the momentum back to San Diego (9-6).

Rivers finished 33 for 54 for 356 yards, with four scores and three interceptions. Eddie Royal caught a team-high 10 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown for the Chargers.

San Francisco (7-8) lost its fourth straight game. Niners’ running back Frank Gore carried 26 times for 158 yards, including a 52-yard score. Colin Kaepernick threw for just 114 yards and one touchdown, but he ran for 151 yards on seven carries, including a 90-yard scamper into the end zone.

Kai Forbath kicked a 26-yard field goal with 5 seconds to play, and the Washington Redskins beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-24, in Landover, Md. on Saturday. Philadelphia’s loss allowed Detroit to clinch an NFC playoff berth and severely damaged the Eagles’ post-season hopes.

Philadelphia was nearly in field position for a go-ahead field goal attempt when Bashaud Breeland intercepted a Mark Sanchez pass near midfield with 1:36 left. Washington quarterback Robert Griffin completed a 23-yard pass to Pierre Garcon on the next play, and a roughing-the-passer penalty on Eagles' defensive lineman Vinny Curry advanced the ball to Philly’s 20-yard line. Forbath made his game-winning kick a few plays later.

While Philadelphia (9-6) wasn’t eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, the Eagles now need to beat the Giants next week — and have the Cowboys lose their final two games — to make the postseason field.

Leading 14-10 at halftime, Philadelphia failed to score in the third quarter as kicker Cody Parkey missed two field goals. Trailing 24-14 entering the fourth quarter, the Eagles tied the game but they could not complete the comeback.

DeSean Jackson caught four passes for 126 yards against his former team. Griffin completed 16 of 23 passes for 220 yards with an interception for Washington (4-11), which snapped its six-game losing streak.

Zach Ertz had a career-high 15 receptions for 115 yards for Philadelphia. Sanchez completed 37 of 50 passes for 374 yards, but he had an interception and a fumble. The Eagles have committed an NFL-high 35 turnovers this season.
